The Position

The Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine (VIFM) seeks to appoint a collaborative and experienced senior leader into the role of Head of Service Clinical Forensic Medicine (CFM).  Working closely with and reporting to the Deputy Director/Chief Medical Officer, the Head of Service CFM will support the delivery of VIFM’s strategic goals and provide leadership to the team of clinical forensic medical specialists, providing an exceptional level of services to meet the needs of the justice system and the community.

 

The Head of Service CFM will be responsible for building a culture that is underpinned by collaboration and high-quality services, with a focus on delivering patient centre care and responsive professional medical forensic services. A key function of the role will be supporting the team to deliver the highest standards of services that include not only a high-quality outcomes but one where integrity, efficiency and effectiveness are embedded in all processes and services.

 

The successful incumbent will be an experienced leader who can streamline and manage the operational needs of the service, whilst contributing to the clinical forensic expertise of the team.  With strong interpersonal and organisational skills, as well as the ability to effectively influence, consult and deliver, the Head of Service CFM will be registered with AHPRA (or will qualify for registration) and will have 3 years full time equivalent experience in clinical forensic medicine. The successful candidate will ideally hold a Master of Forensic Medicine or equivalent and have Fellowship (full or substantially progressed) of relevant College. A commitment to high professional standards and a caring focus in the delivery of forensic services will contribute to success in this role.

 

The Organisation

The Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine (VIFM) is a statutory agency within the Justice and Community Safety portfolio of the Victorian Government and is governed by the VIFM Council on behalf of the Attorney-General. For over 30 years, the VIFM has provided independent, high-quality forensic medical and scientific services to support the health of the community and the justice system in Victoria and beyond. The VIFM is a trusted global leader in forensic medicine.

 

The Institute’s work can be described as a virtuous circle of teaching, training and research, underpinned with its formal links to Monash University’s Department of Forensic Medicine. Academic activities including research and teaching are core features of the Institute’s medical and scientific work and contribute significantly to high-quality service delivery. The coronial and justice systems depend upon the robustness and reliability of the Institute’s forensic evidence and service provision.

 

The VIFM’s contributions to public health and justice include our work in coronial jurisdictions and our input into policy development for areas of public health, such as policing priorities including drug and alcohol campaigns, cold case breakthroughs, among many more.
