Fellowship FAQs

Fellowship is offered to individuals who have been members of the faculty for 5 years or more. Whilst membership recognises qualifications in the field fellowship is reserved for those who have demonstrated a contribution to the field of forensic and legal medicine. It is a recognition of achievement within the field that furthers the objectives of the faculty of forensic and legal medicine.

The annual subscription fee is £549 (the same as Membership), there is also a one off £300 registration fee for Fellowship.

No, if you are accepted through the year, your subscription fee transfers over and the only fee to pay is the registration fee.

Each Fellow receives a Diploma, the use of the post nominal FFFLM, voting rights, access to the online journal, access to member only content on the website, access to the RCP library, the opportunity to connect with the FFLM Suitable person and our appraisers, discounts on webinars, training days and the annual conference, access to expert help and advice from experienced colleagues and the weekly bulletin which is full of our latest news.

Applications for Fellowship can be submitted via the online application form at the bottom of this page of the website.

The Membership and Fellowship Committee (MFC) meet bi-monthly. The meeting dates and submission deadlines can be found on the MFC page.

The outcome of your application will be relayed to applicants via email within a week of the MFC meeting date.

To be considered for Fellowship you should:

• have been a member (or been eligible for Foundation Membership) for at least 5 years.  In exceptional circumstances applications prior to 5 years may be considered
• be in good standing with the Faculty
• promote and comply with the values and aims of the Faculty
• provide details of two Members or Fellows who have agreed to provide references supporting the application
• demonstrate how activity in their own professional field has furthered the objectives of the Faculty

Applications are reviewed at the Membership and Fellowship committee, shortly after the meeting the committeess decision will be sent to the applicant via email.

The applications are ratified by the Board at the meeting following receipt of the form of faith and subscription and registration fee.

After the Board the applicant is advised that their application was ratified by the Baord.

Following the Board a list of names are sent to the RCP print room, for the Diplomas to be printed. The diplomas are then signed by both the RCP and FFLM presidents.

The Diplomas are then posted out to the Fellows.

Unsuccessful applicants can submit an appeal to the MFC, using the information on the Application process and appeal page.

Appeals are reviewed at the bi-monthly meetings.
