Description of BenefitsEligibility & Application
In July 2011, the Standing Orders were amended to allow Medical Coroners, Forensic Pathologists, Forensic Psychiatrists and Forensic Odontologists to be elected to Membership under a new equivalent qualification clause subject to the criteria listed here.
MFFLM via equivalent qualification is bestowed as an honour. No examination is involved and it does not entitle the holder to any particular consideration with regards to applying for a post in the UK, for the completion of specialist training or specialist registration in the UK, for example, with the General Medical Council or the Home Office.
The list of equivalent qualifications which are accepted by the FFLM, may change without notice. Qualifications which are new to the FFLM may have to be considered by the Fellowship Committee which will
make recommendations to the Board for a final decision. The Board’s decision is by a simple majority vote of members, and the count excludes abstentions and absences, and is final. There is no second stage appeal to the President for the recognition of equivalent qualifications.
Applications are via an online form, which must be completed ensuring that eligibility is met for the category being applied for. Applications are considered by the Membership & Fellowship Committee throughout the year. The submission closing dates are available for each meeting. If membership is offered by the MFC, it will then be necessary to complete a form of faith, make payments for the application fee and subscription before the Board considers the recommendation and ratifies membership.
To be considered for Membership by Equivalent Qualification individuals should specify which category they are applying under.
If you are a qualified healthcare professional, the FFLM needs to verify that you are registered with a professional regulatory body and that you are in good standing. Please provide the web address of your regulatory body to enable the FFLM to verify your status on-line. If you know it is not possible to verify your status on-line with your particular regulatory body, then please provide the full name and postal address of the body.
Please note: If you are a healthcare professional and the FFLM cannot verify that you are in good standing with a professional regulatory body, then your application for membership will not be successful.
