Position Statement on the Management of Non-Police Forensic Records

Today we’ve published our position statement on the management of non-police forensic records. See here: FFLM Position Statement on N-PR forensic samples, June 2024

Throughout the UK, sexual assault referral centres, (SARCs) or sexual assault referral co-ordination services (SARCS), in Scotland provide forensic medical examinations, (FMEs). They offer an FME to an individual, whether or not the incident has been reported to the police.

The secure storage of the evidence, consisting of forensic records: notes, samples and photographs and its continuity is crucial. In the case of those who have not yet reported the incident to the police, non-police or self-referrals, the components of the evidence must be managed together. They must not be managed separately, and this must be a contractual requirement.
