Overview of Strangulation
Wednesday 18 November 2026 | 1:00–2:00pm
Professor Cath White OBE, Medical Director, IFAS
This introductory webinar provides a clinical and forensic overview of non-fatal strangulation, including prevalence, the legislative context, signs and symptoms, and the evidence base around injury rates and different types of injury. It will also consider how presentation and recognition of injury may vary, including considerations relating to skin colour.
The session will provide a foundation for professionals seeking to strengthen their understanding of non-fatal strangulation and the interpretation of clinical findings.
Who is this for?
Forensic clinicians who are already experienced in the clinical management of non-fatal strangulation, and who are undertaking expert witness work or considering doing so.
About the speaker: Professor Catherine White OBE is Medical Director of IFAS and former Clinical Director of Saint Mary’s SARC with many years of experience examining complainants of NFS in the context of sexual and domestic abuse. She is regularly instructed by both defence and prosecution as an expert in NFS cases.
