Pausing of the 2027 Part 2 Examinations
18 September 2026
The Faculty of Forensic & Legal Medicine (FFLM) has taken the decision to pause the 2027 Part 2 examinations.
We recognise that this may affect training and career paths and therefore want to explain the reasons for the decision and the arrangements being made for affected candidates.
We are pausing the 2027 Part 2 examinations
Earlier this year, the FFLM commissioned an external review of its examinations to identify opportunities to build on their strengths, further develop the qualifications and enhance the candidate experience.
Following this, the FFLM Board has decided to pause the Part 2 examinations in 2027 so that the FFLM can focus on implementing the review’s recommendations.
We have a clear and ambitious vision for the future of our examinations. This is an exciting opportunity to turn that vision into action through a considered and coordinated programme of development.
What this means for you
Candidates holding a Part 1 or DLM with Distinction Pass
Candidates holding a Part 1 Licentiate in General Forensic Medicine (GFM) or Sexual Offence Medicine (SOM), or Part 1 Membership of the FFLM, will have their pass extended by one year to reflect this delay. This also applies to candidates who passed the Diploma of Legal Medicine (DLM) with distinction and are eligible to sit Part 2 Membership in GFM or SOM.
This extension has been applied automatically, no action is needed.
