Summer Conference of The Forensic Science Society

CALL FOR PAPERS ‘Is What You See What You Get?’ The Conference With the ever-changing market place in terms of the provision of forensic science the question has to be asked; are we delivering confidence to the Criminal Justice System (CJS) and reassuring the general public? Do those involved in the investigative process have the appropriate skills, is the science correct and understood. Can the court be confident that it is receiving well trained and qualified experts who are truly able to provide professional and impartial evidence? How must we best address these issues? The conference will be of interest to those involved in the investigative process from scene to court - Crime Scene Examiners, Forensic Scientists, Investigating Officers, Managers within the police, forensic science laboratories, lawyers acting for both the defence and prosecution within the Judicial process. Outline Programme Friday Morning - At least one interactive workshop and a second “outside”, weather permitting. Friday Afternoon - The session will open with presentations from representatives of various bodies involved in regulation, accreditation and education all of whom support those in the investigative process. This will be followed by a ‘question time’ offering real opportunity to ask questions and raise debate in respect of your issues and concerns for the future of forensic science. Speakers include: The Forensic Science Regulator; Mr Peter Ablett CEO, CRFP; Professor Julie Mennell, UK Forensic Science Education Group; Dr Simon Bramble, Head of Forensic Services, NPIA; Dr Anya Hunt, Chair of Standards Forensic Science Society Saturday - Call for Papers Sunday Morning - Case Study, speakers include; Professor Brian Caddy, relating his experiences in undertaking various high profile case reviews and Mr Peter Ablett who will report on the progress of recommendations from high profile cases.
