Substance Misuse and Drug Facilitated Crime

The FFLM will be holding a training day on Substance Misuse and Drug Facilitated Crime on Saturday 24 November 2018 at the Holiday Inn, Regent's Park, London. 

The objectives of the training day are:

  • To describe the role of the controlled drugs liaison officer with the ability to identify local trends in CD markets;
  • To identify the effects of the newer recreational drugs, and the potential for involvement in forensic cases in custody, at sexual assault referral centres, and at the scene of sudden unexpected death;
  • To describe the toxicology of deaths in custody; 
  • To discuss changes to the management of substance misuse detainees in police custody (following the revision of the Blue Guidelines) especially in relation to the management of body packers; 
  • To explain what is Chemsex and its importance in the forensic environment.
  • To discuss the use of Chemical agents.

  • PC Wendy McAllister, Association of Police Controlled Drug Liaison Officers;
  • Dr David Wood, Consultant Physician and Clinical Toxicologist, Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust and King’s Health Partners; 
  • Dr Margaret Stark, Chair of the FFLM Forensic Science Subcommittee;
  • Mr David Stuart, Substance Use Lead, Chelsea and Westminster.
