St Mary's SARC: An Introduction to the Role of the Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) and the Forensic and Medical Aspects of Sexual Assault Examinations

Days 1 & 2 will focus on general aspects including adult complainants Day 3 will focus on child sexual abuse This induction programme offers an overview of the issues and procedures involved in the provision of services in relation to sexual offences. The course is aimed at Sexual Offences Forensic Physicians, General Forensic Physicians, Forensic Nurse Examiners, Police Officers and those working within or towards establishing a Sexual Assault Referral Centre. The course will cover: The Independent Sexual Violence Advisor (ISVA) Overview of the SARC and its services Forensic science Anatomy and dermatological conditions The CPS and the Sexual Offences Act Police investigation and the national picture Swab taking Psychological sequelae STIs and PEP Consent and capacity Injuries Note keeping Examination of the adult complainant Forensic odontology Statement writing Court room skills Children’s SARC Forensic medical examination: child Role of the Child Advocate Photo documentation and use of the colposcope The role of the social worker Police investigation – CSA Child protection Genital findings workshop Course fees: £300.00 for days 1 & 2 £400.00 for days 1, 2 and 3 (Please note that the content on day three is not designed as a stand alone programme and attendance on this day only is therefore, not available) Please contact Clare.McManmon@cmft.nhs.uk / 0161 701 2323 for further information and to book a place.
