Paediatric Forensic Assessment of Non-Acute Child Sexual Abuse

This one day forensic paediatric course is aimed at Community Child Health trainees, consultants, speciality doctors, Forensic Medical Examiners or other clinicians involved in non-acute child sexual abuse examinations

Learning Objectives:

By the end of this course, delegates will have:

  • An understanding of normal ano-genital anatomy and its variants
  • Basic competencies in conducting a comprehensive genital examination in cases of non-acute childhood sexual abuse
  • Basic skills in the techniques used to facilitate genital examination in children
  • Practical skills in the use of a colposcope and obtaining photo-documentation of examination findings
  • An understanding of the skills required to communicate sensitively with children about issues relating to sexual abuse
  • Learned when screening for STIs is required and the appropriate investigations and management of STI following childhood sexual abuse
  • An understanding of the use of different types of post-coital contraception
  • A clear understanding of consent and confidentiality in relation to conducting child abuse examinations
