The First AGM of the Faculty of Forensic and Legal Medicine of the Royal College of Physicians took place on 20 April 2007 with 65 in attendance. The newly elected Fellows received their diplomas from the President, Guy Norfolk, and reports were provided by the Registrar, Treasurer and Editor of the JCFLM that are available on this site.
The first recipient of the David Jenkins Chair was announced as Professor Ian Wall who has brought considerable academic rigour to the field of clinical forensic medicine with a prodigious output of advisory documents designed to raise standards in the speciality.
The Norroy and Ulster King of Arms, Thomas Woodcock, provided a fascinating exposition on the new Faculty Crest with his presentation being one of the highlights of the meeting.
There was opportunity to debate areas of concern to the membership including the criteria for election in the Foundation categories.
The inaugural David Jenkins Lecture was delivered by Lord Justice Robin Auld, one of the most distinguished supporters of the creation of the Faculty. We were fortunate indeed to hear such perceptive comments on medical expert evidence at a time of turmoil for this area of practice within the profession.
After this, the meeting concluded with a buffet diner where it was possible for the Office Bearers to circulate amongst the members and expand further on what had been taking place in the first year of the Faculty’s existence.
