Dipstick Warning - Guidelines and Advice

There have been a number of recent submissions to the FSS London Toxicology Laboratory where `dip-sticks' have been used to screen urine samples from victimes of alleged drug-facilitated sexual assault (`date rape'). It would appear that this is a very recent development which, in itself, is not an issue. However, in one case a decision was made on the basis of a negative `dip-stick' test that no urine sample should be taken from the complainant. A blood sample was taken later.
It is essential that a urine sample is taken in all such cases, irrespective of the result of a `dip-stick' test. For further guidance see the above word document.
